It was Friday afternoon; I was at my kitchen sink washing my hands before unpacking and putting away my groceries and I threw out to the “atmos” that is my apartment;
Hey Google, BBC Minute.
15 seconds later (yes it takes 15 seconds at my house to spool up 1 minute of news…) I was treated to a 60 second blast of news from the BBC Minute Podcast.
Later Friday evening, while back in the kitchen cleaning up after dinner again I threw out into the “atmos”;
Hey Google, what’s the latest news?
The response, not one that I was expecting.
Sorry, I can’t get the news right now.
Cutting ahead; this is the response I get from my Google Home in my bedroom and Google Minis from the; kitchen, office/studio and bathroom. Zero news all weekend.
Messaged a couple friends that also have Google Home or Mini in their homes; same response for both of them.
Found this tread on reddit; however, no one has any solutions. Just the same problem I have been experiencing.
I am in Canada and I have had this exact same problem for 2-3 days now.
My news sources are still set correctly in the settings, but when I ask Google to play the news / tell me the news / what’s the news, she replies with instructions on how to play the news (the same phrases I just said) OR she will say “I can’t read the news right now” …. It’s driving me insane!

I don’t like to speculate, out loud, my imagination is too crazy for that. However, it is extremely interesting the timing for this service “outage” and the current events, news and information coming out of the United States is overwhelming right now.
Right now, no news is certainly not good news.
