    Let’s Talk Shaving

There are so many options out there for getting rid of hair. Some of us shave, wax, tug, pluck, laser and cream ourselves in order to achieve our desired look.

Everyone’s fuzz, fur and whiskers are different which brings meaning to all the madness out there, you see looming, when you approach the “shaving” aisle at your local “apothacary”.

    [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]

During the Pandemic lock-down; we asked folks about their shaving habits and if they had changed during isolation/lock-down.

We were hoping to hear stories about folks experimenting. Taking the opportunity to endure either the; awkward grow out on purpose, or the grow out to fix a “mistake” phase.

We didn’t hear from any one but lots did respond to our poll about shave product and practises.

  • WATER

    WATER

mature gentleman drinking water after a workout - sadly we cant quite see up his shorts...

We often take it for granted. It just is there at our fingertips. Running. Clean. Cold when we want to drink it. Hot when we want to bathe.

We also all know that humans are made up mostly of water and yet many do not know that they are running on or very close to dehydration. Usually, and this is going to sound judgmental, yet, it holds some truth, the people that understand water are the ones “we” make fun.

“THOSE” people are the ones that have the fancy water bottles.

Some of “THOSE” people even have fruits or strange leaves floating in their water and we all make fun of them for being “weird”.

Well “weird” or not, “those” folks are doing it right.

    We need water.

Sure we may all “drink” a lot of fluids. Coffee, tea carbonated sweetened beverages, and cocktails do not count. (I tried)

The “professionals” recommend that adults drink 2 litres of water a day. That is a half-gallon, 64 fluid ounces or 8 x 8oz of water a day. But, you may need more. Rumor also has it that drinking a glass of water as soon as you wake up, is the perfect way to BOOT UP your system in the morning.

Sweating is the most obvious way we lose our water. It is also the best way we cleanse our skin. From the inside out. Sweat. Shower. Repeat. (Bring a friend when you repeat the process, it is a lot more fun then)

Sweating keeps your skin looking healthy young and fresh. Don’t be afraid to sweat.

  • EXERCISE YOUR SUN PROTECTION FACTOR

    EXERCISE YOUR SUN PROTECTION FACTOR

WOW – We have been issued our first heat event of the season; from today through to Wednesday. Ain’t it the shits we are in lock-down?

Nonetheless, I am seeing a lot of peeps on their balconies (as I am on my balcony from time to time) and in their yards; all laying there as naked as they want to be, soaking up the sun.

Just while you are out there – make sure you are going extra on the SPF.

If you are going to be following quarantine guidelines and make it out of this pandemic CORONA VIRUS FREE – please, don’t let cancer be waiting for you at the end of the ride.

Practice Safe Sun - Man reading a book on the beach as the waves lap at his feet.

Make sure you are following best practices when you are applying your sunscreen. Exercise your SPF to the fullest.

    1. Apply your first layer of sunscreen about 30 minutes before you venture outside. Make sure you get all the spots (burning the tops of your ears I do NOT recommend). This allows the sunscreen and your skin to get to know each other and BIND to give you a more solid protection.
    2. Re-apply every 2 hours UNLESS you have been swimming or working out and sweating. Then you really need to re-apply the sunscreen immediately.
    3. Make sure you are drinking enough water.

    Cheers.

  • KEEP YOUR SKIN MOISTURIZED

    KEEP YOUR SKIN MOISTURIZED

If you have been super conscious about washing your hands in recent weeks; then you may be feeling the pains and strains of all that soap and hand sanitizer. Especially, if you have not been keeping up with moisture replenishment.

Keeping your skin moisturized is important, not only now but in every day health. Dry and cracked skin is more susceptible to further irritation and possible infections.

It is important to note that moisturizing your hands does not in any way make it easier for you to acquire bacteria or germs. Especially, if your hands are clean when you apply the moisturizer.

It may also be a relief to note that you don’t have to be constantly be adding lotion to your hands. Start with giving yourself a really good application at bed time or in the evening when you are watching TV. Giving your hands a full night to soak up the moisture and nutrients.

    Recommendations:

You do not need to get super fancy lotion either. Especially to start out with. I am a huge fan of Vaseline Men Healing Moisture Hand and Body Lotion Extra Strength as it has never let me down.

A trick that I learned from an old friend of mine, if you have really dry cuticles; Sweet Almond Oil (put a drop on the nail bed and gently massage it in). Vaseline Petroleum Jelly with Cocoa Butter is really amazing at the same time.

    Keep those hands happy!

  • SKIN CARE

    SKIN CARE

    SKIN.

We all have it. It is the LARGEST organ we have as humans and it deserves to be taken care of  just like the rest of our bodies. Maybe even more so; since SKIN has such a big part to play in our lives.

Quickly, I am going to just give you the basics, then over time we will expand on that but this information I would go so far to say are the “pillars” of good skin care.

    1. Drink water and drink lots of it.

    2. Don’t be afraid to sweat.

    3. Cleanse.

    4. Polish.

    5. Shave.

    6. Protect.

Science has come a long way in skin care; giving us amazing tools to help keep our skin looking healthy plus keep it strong so our skin can protect us. That doesn’t mean you HAVE to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars to have good skin.

In all the years that I have worked in Skin Care, in one way-shape-form-or-another, and continue to take care of my skin, the principles have always remained the same and my skin has been doing a great job.

Water. Sweat. Cleanse. Polish. Shave. Protect.
