An invention born out of convenience and advancements in technology. Elastic and rubber meant waistbands and no longer needing to be “sewn into” your full body of long underwear for the winter.

     

    Where did the term “Long Johns” come from?

     

    The story behind the term is not as cut-and-dry as is the story with jockstraps, nonetheless there are some clever ideas out there.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”8161″ img_size=”500×500″ alignment=”center”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]One school of thought comes from the foundation of “long johns” being found in Derbyshire, England. There has been a company there with a 225 year history. The story says that John Smedley’s Lea Mills, is the creator of the actual garment and it was then named for heavy weight boxer John L. Sullivan (19th century). The company still does produce long johns.

     

    A second school of thought has been put forward that the term “long johns” comes in fact from the french term for the garment; “longues jambes” (long legs).

     

    A little Canadiana History in the story of long johns.     That does not always mean that there is only one way to do the job, and unfortunately, not enough men know about the various options that are available for jockstraps that are super comfortable and hard working as well.

    LETS LOOK AT SOME STATS

     

    • POUCH: Cotton 95% Spandex 5%. Cotton Pouch with a slight mix of Spandex for the support I mentioned.
    • WAISTBAND: 3 inch elastic waistband
    • LEG STRAPS: 1 inch elastic leg bands
    • SIZING: Small (28-30 waist) to 3X Large (43-47 waist). Keep in mind that these are true to size so if you measure yourself you know exactly what to order. They are snug, but not restrictive, or suffocating. Having said that; I would recommend going up a size if you are in-between sizes.
    • COLOURS: Navy (as pictured above), Black, Grey and White.
