Invictus Week and Drake Defensecon are just around the corner, and while everyone is buzzing about the latest MISC, MIRAI, and FURY ships, let’s not forget about the DRAKE Interplanetary Buccaneer, this past year’s intriguing star.

I had the opportunity to catch up with Captain JordanCFJD of The Lemonade Syndicate and delve into his experiences with the Drake Interplanetary Buccaneer.

Here’s what he had to say:

Q: What initially attracted you to the Drake Interplanetary Buccaneer? Were there any specific features or characteristics that stood out to you?

A: When I think Drake, I think rugged. The Buccaneer is built to fly fast and hit hard. With a few configurations allowing for 6 repeaters, and a top speed of just over Mach 3.8 all with its little frame, it’s an easy pick for me. Pop in; Pop ’em; Pop out

Q: Could you share your firsthand experience with the Buccaneer’s manoeuvrability and speed? How does it handle in different environments and combat scenarios?

A: While working under contract with Crusader Security, I’ve been in scenarios where I was wedged against multiple heavy fighters (Anvil Hurricanes, Aegis Vanguard Wardens) at once. The manoeuvrability in and out of atmosphere has permitted me neutralize bigger multi-crewed ships unscathed. And if need be, the engineers at Drake Interplanetary have made it so the Buccaneer can outrun almost all ships available in Stanton.

Q: The Buccaneer is known for its ruggedness and durability. Can you speak to its ability to withstand damage and sustain in challenging situations?

A: Like all Drakes, the Buccaneer has huge forward thrusters. But the unlike the Cutter or Cutlass series, the Bucc has them built onto the chassis. We’ve all seen someone trying to stabilize a Cutlass that’s missing a thruster (myself included). I’ve had close calls with missile hits taking out my wing tips, but I’ve always been able to slap the throttle and fly (fast) in a straight line.

Q: how does the ship’s firepower and weaponry systems perform in real-world combat situations? Are there any notable advantages or limitations you’ve encountered?

A: I’ve run into several high-risk targets while in my Drake, and having a HUGE Gatling whirring right above the cockpit has always made me feel safe.

The additional Gatling[s] on the tips of the wings are also included right from the factory.

This thing was meant to be mean, and Drake is not afraid to show it off. One thing that may be important to mention, is that if your intention is to string a bunch of contracts in a day, ballistic ammunition, though inexpensive, does need to be refilled.

Some pilots like to keep the factory load-out while some may customize to have a sustainable laser repeater beast. It comes down to preference.

Q: In terms of customization and upgrades, what options are available for the Buccaneer? Have you made any modifications to optimize its performance for your specific needs?

A: Since having a dispute with my insurance (unrelated to Drake Interplanetary) they’ve refused to replace any aftermarket parts on my vessel. I’ve tried a few things here and there, but for the time being, I’m quite happy with how my Buccaneer was delivered.

I’ve seen a few docked Buccaneers at Port Olisar with upgraded shield generators, coolers, power plants, quantum drives. From laser scatter-guns with 8 size 1 missiles to ballistic cannons with a pair of size 3 missiles. The list goes on.

It’s truly a moldable piece of machinery that can be optimized to the pilot’s needs
