Wouldn’t believe it—I had quite the unexpected encounter today while out hauling scrap in the far reaches of Stanton. It turns out, amidst the vast expanse of space, I ran into none other than Cousin Menix and Aunt Beryl. It’s been ages since our paths crossed, and I must say, the reunion was both delightful and surprising.
I crossed paths with Cousin Menix (I do not believe we really are related under the big family tree or if his family and my family just been friends for so long. I suspect with our history as Pith, I would suspect one of my ancestors did business with an ancestor of Menix’ and yadda yadda …here we are generations later. Who knows, really?) We exchanged greetings and quickly caught up on lost time. Auntie Beryl, true to form, couldn’t resist showering me with her famous Blue Berylberry Muffins. I graciously accepted, even though my EVA suit already feels snug enough as it is. But how could I refuse the delectable treats that always bring back memories of childhood?
During our short rendezvous, Cousin Menix, ever the practical one, reminded me of a critical matter. Apparently, the cargo loading process on his ship has been moving at a snail’s pace lately. He stressed the importance of checking my hold before lifting off, ensuring that the loading team has completed their tasks diligently.
His words struck a chord within me. Being the captain of a cargo hauler, it’s easy to get caught up in the mundane repetition of long hauls, not seeing folks for a long time. Your brain can become numb and you just are not fully present. But practicality and safety should never be overlooked. Cousin Menix’s reminder serves as a valuable lesson—a lesson that ensures the seamless functioning of my vessel and the crews I work with.
So, as I sit here in the Mess, savouring the heavenly aroma of Auntie Beryl’s Blue Berylberry Muffins and contemplating Cousin Menix’s advice, I can’t help but appreciate the intricacies of friends and family connections and the wisdom they bring. The universe is a vast and unpredictable place, but with the support of loved ones, we can navigate its challenges with confidence.
Next time I cross paths or can send a sub-space; must remember to suggest to Menix that he should entertain the idea of using pads instead of bays at Lagrange points.
