    Cracker Barrel Changed Its Logo and Conservatives Lost Their Shit—Shocking, I Know.

    Christian nationalists have spent decades rebranding Jesus into their Aryan poster boy — paler skin, blue eyes, perfectly trimmed beard. Total makeover. And they celebrated it. Because when they do the rebranding, it’s holy.

    The same crowd that melts down over fonts and pronouns is the one insisting climate change is fake. It’s all the same allergy to reality: change happens, whether you approve or not.

    So maybe Cracker Barrel thought their rebrand would be welcomed too. Nope. Same hypocrisy, different target. Just like when Orlando painted a rainbow crosswalk at the Pulse memorial, or when a queer person says, “These are my pronouns.” The answer is always the same: “No. Wrong. Not allowed.”

    What the Fuck Did Anyone Expect?

    Cracker Barrel said, “This is how we want to present ourselves.” The Right snapped back like they always do — with rage, denial, and calls for punishment.

    If they can’t handle a rainbow crosswalk, or someone choosing their own name, what made Cracker Barrel think a font change was going to survive the culture-war gauntlet?

    Self-Definition Is the Threat

    It doesn’t matter if you’re a teenager affirming your gender, a city painting solidarity on asphalt, or a corporate chain rolling out a fresh logo. The threat is always the same: someone defining themselves on their own terms.

    And that’s intolerable to the Right. Their “freedom” only extends as far as their reflection in the mirror. Plastic testicles on a truck? Valid self-expression. Jesus with blue eyes? Divine branding. But anyone else? Out of bounds.

    Cracker Barrel’s Big Mistake

    Cracker Barrel thought they were rolling out a brand evolution. What they actually did was expose the fragility at the core of their loudest customers.

    This crowd doesn’t do evolution. They don’t do new. They don’t even do acknowledge reality. They do one thing: rage at anything that moves on without their permission.

    For Dessert

    Here’s the truth: the backlash against Cracker Barrel isn’t about nostalgia, heritage, or fonts. It’s about the same hypocrisy that lets the Right re-brand Jesus while screaming at anyone else who dares.

    Cracker Barrel wanted a new look. The Right responded the only way they know how: true to themselves, to the point of chewing off their own faces rather than admit the world doesn’t orbit their comfort zone.

    I cannot help but think that every one of those moments, during my educational journey, where a student whined, “when am I ever gonna need this?” was the moment that should have been met with more “because you are going to be a grown up some day and have to handle some grown up business” instead of “SILENCE! HEADS DOWN – EYES ON YOUR PAPER”.

    Everything Premier Ford has done, and dare I even say other politicians of the conservative ilk have all done, is rely on a huge number of those kids that just barely squeaked by, the ones that whined about fractions or the Dewey Decimal System, the ones that whined, “when am I going to ever use this in real life”, to be adults now and so fucking confused they just throw up their hands and hope somebody else can figure it out.

     

    Keep them tired. Keep them hungry. Keep them sick. Keep them dumb.

     

    Overwork the parent who has to work 3 jobs to just barely be able to put food on the table and a roof over their head. But the food is not fresh. It is mostly processed, kids aren’t getting enough nutrition, so they are running at less than 100% as well. Immune systems are compromised due to malnutrition, hence the kids are always sick.

     

    Teachers. Wear them down too. Pay them shit. Cut their funding for supplies, tools, resources, development. More hours. Less pay. More stress. Keep the teachers and support staff at near breaking point. Just so the system doesn’t crash but just the bare minimum gets done so nothing snaps.

    Fast forward to the situation we face today in Ontario; the perfect combination of pieces all fall into place for Emperor Ford’s plan.

     

    Every step completely legal. No one listening to the folks putting their hands up saying, “hey…hey folks we really have a problem here….this guy is pulling some questionable stuff….and that guy over there is pulling some shady stuff”.

    Keep mixing that brew, working folks harder, keep them tired, exhausted, focused on “survival” rather than building a life, a living, prosperity on their own and eventually you have a majority of the people living under a government they didn’t vote for or did not even vote at all.

     

    I will hazard a guess it would be because no one explained to them the “why” they are going to need to know or use this. Maybe nobody told them their voice counts.

     

    Just what the predators count on.

    Doesn’t it just give you the shits, errr I mean the giggles, when you are watching Legally Blond 2, released in 2003, during COVID-19 PANDEMIC LOCKDOWN 2020, and you hear the following line.

    IF WE LET THOSE THAT SPEAK FOR US COMPROMISE OUR VOICE…THEN THIS COUNTRY IS IN FOR A REALLY BAD HAIRCUT.

    We all know that it is easy to take words of yesteryear and apply an understanding to the reference or meaning that suits us. You can see that I chose to do that with the graphic used in the SNAP SHOT both here and on the SOCIALS.

    But let’s just put that aside for a moment; there is a strong message in that speech regardless of the focus. During that scene, Elle Woods is addressing this House of Representatives (I think?) and she gives a speech with the above quoted passage, which is sage advice for almost any advocacy.

    She speaks of getting a “freak by chance” appointment at the fanciest pretty-beauty-salon there is. As she is there, taken in by all the wonder and splendor of her surroundings, Elle fails to realize what is being done to her hair. Wrong products, colour and cut.

    Yet, bamboozled by the glitz and glamour (LOOK OVER THERE!) she leaves with out saying a word.

    I just let you take from that what you will.

    There are 3 things I have taken to heart and I try and focus on. 3 things that I am trying to apply to my life.

    1. The only person you can always count on to speak up for you, is you.
    2. When you find others that are speaking the same message; make sure that you are directing your message effectively, in order to get the right response. (No point in complaining to your mechanic about your bad haircut. They won’t be able to fix it. And if they offer…RUN!)
    3. Start keeping the “when I grow up” promises that you made to yourself when you were a kid. (The reasonable ones! You still need to clean your room!)

    Now, I am in no way making any comment about any of your Quarantine-Self-Barbering that you have been undertaking in the past weeks. In fact, I have been overjoyed seeing how many of you surprise yourself with what you can achieve when you put your mind to it.
